With only 3 days to go before the opening of the
Biennale EXD'11, Lisbon prepares for 61 days of celebrating design and design culture, under the theme Useless. The
Opening Week, starting next Wednesday, September 28, promises a high-octane calendar of events in different formats, until October 2.
Prominent figure of multicultural dialogue in Portugal,
Manuel Clemente, Bishop of Oporto, will introduce the theme Useless, thus launching the 6th edition of the EXD Biennale. Don’t miss the opportunity of hearing and experiencing live the creative work and thinking of the most exciting contemporary creators, in the
Lisbon Lectures and
Open Talks:
Hans Ulrich Obrist,
Michael Rock,
Enzo Mari,
Marcelo Rosenbaum,
Marcel Wanders, among many others, from September 28 until October 2.
In a creative itinerary through the Lisbon city center, EXD’11 invites to the opening of original content, in the form of exhibitions,
urban interventions and
special projects:
the first-ever anthology of Portuguese seminal designer
Fernando Brízio, 8 exhibition units in 7 institutions in
Sidelines, astounding infrastructural failures in the exhibition
Utilitas Interrupta, two systems for measuring and evaluating usefulness in
Useless?, among others.
The epicenter of the event’s dynamics in the city, a place for meeting and sharing, all Biennale roads lead to the
Lounging Space, housed in the striking AntigoTribunal da Boa-Hora. Hosting the launch of the book
“Useless/Sem-Uso”, the Lounging Space boasts its own program of exhibitions, djsets, projections and other events, as well as an terrace-, bar, shop and info centre. This is the ideal starting point for your experience of the Biennale and the city of Lisbon, until November 27.
