Book experimentadesign 1999–2017
In 2017, year of the last edition of the EXD Biennale, the valuable cultural legacy consolidated over the event’s 10 editions was celebrated. The EXD Biennale has been a manifest pillar for the development of national and international thought in the areas of design and architecture, having included the participation of hundreds of renowned protagonists from various creative and knowledge-based areas.
The book “experimentadesign 1999–2017” revisits the past editions of the Biennale and its most important moments. In both Portuguese and English, it is comprised of more than 400 pages that reveal a visual and encompassing analysis of this motor for cultural and creative development, which instilled a new paradigm for contemporary international project culture, mainly originating from Lisbon, but also from other cities.
It is a journey that incorporates all the important milestones of the history of this event, including all of the editions and their themes, representing an archive that compiles the main references of all the editions of the Biennale — across the different cities where it took place — as well as of the Voyager and Warm-Up.
It is divided into two parts: one that brings together a series of essentially visual elements, in a kaleidoscopic reference to the 9 editions produced between 1999 and 2015, collected from the EXD archive; and another with detailed information about all the projects that made up the different editions, including all its participants. The book also includes an interview with Guta Moura Guedes as well as texts about the Biennale’s impact by Pedro Gadanho, Delfim Sardo and José Bártolo.
The book is a limited edition of 1000 copies and can be purchased via the email alex.sousa@experimenta.pt (subject to existing stock)
