On the last day of opening week, a great number of culture vultures dedicated their Sunday to stay on trend with the biennale; although the lighter programme only offered an Open Talk and the Pecha Kucha Delux event, no one wanted to miss out on hearing and seeing great designers of our time (or even discussing alongside them). Check out the photos on the last daily feature on the Opening Week.

The busiest day of the biennale had to be Saturday; the weekend meant more availability, and that reflected on the incredible affluence to every single event. From the popular Open Talks to the opening week party at the Lounging Space, through the programmed documentary screening and exhibition openings, there was something for everyone – and no one was let down. Go through some highlights in this daily feature.
Open Talks: Do-It-Yourself Design
The audience filled the room
Spirits were still high on the third day of EXD’11 as even more people came to see the Open Talks: Arquitectura inútil?/ Use-less architecture? with host Pedro Gadanho and guests Gretchen Mokry, Alexandra Lange and Folke Köbberling, followed by Lisbon Lectures by Sulki & Min and Fernando Brízio. But, keeping with the biennale’s dynamic programme, Magnus Ericson and Ramia Mazé’s Design Act tangent and Utilitas Interrupta exhibition openings. See some shots in this daily feature.

The second day of EXD’11 raised the bar as there was a full day programme already; from the 11am Open Talk to the Lisbon Lectures, Redundância urban intervention opening and Sidelines exhibition opening, the biennale presented a wide spectrum of cultural events that were extremely well received. But of course the day had to end with a bang, and the EXD’11 party in LuxFrágil was just that – a massive hit. See some moments from the 2nd day of Opening Week in this daily feature.
